M6.3 Presentation: Local Conservation Plans for an Endangered Species

Instructions: Think back to the endangered species that you wrote your blog post about in Module 2. For this assignment, you will be researching conservation measures applied locally to save/rehabilitate this particular species in your area. Explain if the measures have been successful or not. These measures may be a result of federal and/or state policies, but also a result of non-profit, private, or civil organizations' efforts. Find articles related to the management and conservation plans related to your species of concern.

Search help: Just like in Module 2, we are going to type the scientific name and the common name of your species into the first search box in OneSearch's Advanced Search screen using or between the names. For example:

First box: "Myotis sodalis" or "indiana bat"

Then, think about what we need to find out about your species. We need to know about conservation, so type this and any synonyms you can think of into the second box using or in between each word

Second box: conservation or management or save

search results for search described above

Click the search button. You will see a lot of eBooks in the results, which might have a chapter related to your species. You can also narrow by source type to Academic Journals only by using the checkbox on the left. This will give you journal articles about the conservation measures for your species.

Finally, you can try typing your region/local area into the third box. However, this will greatly limit your results as there may not be specific research articles written about Indiana Bats in Maryland, for example. In order to find specifics on your local area, check out the links and tips in the Additional Resources box below.
