Below, you'll learn how to limit a search to peer reviewed journals and how to identify scholarly articles. The Find Articles on a TOPIC tab suggests where to start your search and provides additional search tips.

Peer Reviewed (Scholarly) Journal Articles

What are They and How to Find Them

A journal is a collection of articles usually written by scholars in an academic or professional field. Some journals get the opinions of experts in the field to determine the quality of research presented in an article before deciding whether or not to publish it. Journals that use this review/acceptance process are called peer reviewed or refereed.

Many databases, including OneSearch, provide a check box that you can check to limit your search results to peer reviewed journals.

Note: Non-scholarly articles such as book reviews and editorials can slip through this filter, so it is important for you to know how to recognize a scholarly article.
