American Community SurveyBeginning in 2005 this annual sample survey provides more frequent updates than the Decennial Census allowing a more up-to-date picture.
This ongoing statistical survey samples one out of 42 households every year and is summarized in 1, 3, 5 year captures.
Bureau of Labor Statistics: Industry at a GlanceThis department is part of the U.S. Department of Labor and is responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy. These pages display a ‘snapshot’ of national data obtained from different BLS surveys and programs. Many programs also produce additional industry detail, including state, county, and metropolitan area data.
Census Bureau dataStarting in July 2019, data.census.gov is the primary way to access Census Bureau data. After July 1, 2019, all new data (previously released on American FactFinder) will be released on this new data platform.
Consumer Expenditure SurveyThis department captures consumer buying habits which can provide trends in spending.
Current Population SurveyThis website is the primary source of labor force statistics for the population of the United States.
Estimates obtained from the CPS include employment, unemployment, earnings, hours of work, and other indicators. They are available by a variety of demographic characteristics including age, sex, race, marital status, and educational attainment.
Data.govAn excellent resource for finding statistics on many U.S. topics.
NAICSThe North American Industry Classification System is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments. Before searching for data collected by business types find out the classification type used.
Neighborhood Atlas"Uses the Area Deprivation Index (ADI) to allow for rankings of neighborhoods by socioeconomic status disadvantage in a region of interest (e.g. at the state or national level). It includes factors for the theoretical domains of income, education, employment, and housing quality. It can be used to inform health delivery and policy, especially for the most disadvantaged neighborhood groups."
Bureau of Labor Statistics: Occupational Employment and Wage StatisticsThis department captures employment and wage estimates of over 800 occupations. These are estimates of the number of people employed in certain occupations, and estimates of the wages paid to them. (Self-employed persons not included).
Occupational Outlook Handbook"The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) provides information on what workers do; the work environment; education, training, and other qualifications; pay; the job outlook; information on state and area data; similar occupations; and sources of additional information, for 325 occupational profiles, covering about 4 out of 5 jobs in the economy."
