PSY420: Human Motivation

Assignment Tips

For the Project Proposal and Outline due in Module 2, you will need to complete a full outline in multimedia presentation format with voiceover. (See M2A1 in your course for specific details).

The resources below will help you with choosing and narrowing a topic, finding scholarly articles, and preparing your multimedia presentation.

Choosing a topic

First, you will need to select a theory of motivation from the list of theories supplied in M2A1 in your course and apply it to a specific context or setting.

Finding sources

See the Search tips tab for resources to help you with searching OneSearch for articles.

Note: If you are finding too many irrelevant results in OneSearch, try searching one of the psychology-specific research databases listed in the box below, such as PsycARTICLES.

Multimedia presentation

See the APA help tab for assistance citing your articles in APA format.

Now that you've chosen a theory and a specific context/situation to focus on, you are ready to find 2 scholarly articles. Remember, the search tricks below can help you craft a more effective search. For example, if you chose to focus on possible selves theory in the context of academic motivation, you may want to consider using quotation marks to ensure that your results include the exact phrase, "possible selves." For example, type "possible selves" in quotation marks in the first box and academi* in the second box. The asterisk will search all endings of that word, for example academic or academia:

See the interaction below for examples of common search tips.

In addition to finding sources in the Library, you will also need to cite those sources using proper APA format. For each source that you use, you will need a reference (full citation at the end of your presentation) an an in-text citation in the body of your presentation. Here are a few resources to help with citing sources in APA:

See the APA FAQs box on this guide for answers to additional APA frequently asked questions.
