Finding Movie Reviews and News Articles in the Library

Articles and reviews in OneSearch

Use the library's OneSearch tool to find even more movie reviews and news articles on your film. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Advanced Search screen in OneSearch.
  2. Type your film title (in quotation marks) into the first search box, for example:
    "iron man"
    [Search tip:
Use quotation marks to search for phrases of two or more words. This tells the database to search for that exact phrase as opposed to those words anywhere in the text, far apart from each other.]
  3. If you want to find reviews, add the word, review after the film title, for example:
    "iron man" review
  4. In the Search Options area under Date Published, enter a time frame that is relevant to your film (i.e., 2007 to 2009).
  5. Click Search.

Then, browse the list of results for relevant articles.

Articles and reviews in popular news sources

Click the links below to search for full text news articles and movie reviews in The New York Times or The Washington Post in the library:

  1. Once you're on the newspaper page, click on Advanced Search to the right of the search box.
  2. Keep the pubib number in the first search box (Note: This will ensure that you are searching within the correct newspaper).
  3. Type your film title in quotation marks in the second search box, for example:
    "iron man"
  4. If you want to find reviews, add the word, review after the film title, for example:
    "iron man" review
  5. Next to Publication date, click the drop-down menu and select Specific date range...
  6. Enter a date range that is relevant to your chosen film. For example, if you wanted reviews on the original Iron Man film from 2008, you might set the date to from 2007 to 2009.
  7. Click Search.

Then, browse the list of results for relevant articles.

Finding Movie Reviews and News Articles on the Open Web

Note: If using Google, you may be able to find some reviews via popular news sources such as The New York Times, but you may also run into paywalls. Since the library subscribes to many of these popular news sources, we recommend using the library to search for news articles instead (where you won't run into paywalls!)
